1. Please plan to attend
a Fleet 158 meeting on August 4th following
the 10 a.m. Rodesiler race. This will be our annual organizational
meeting for the Scots on the Rocks Regatta. Annual dues are
payable by August 18, however you may save the price of a stamp
if you bring your check to the August meeting. Dues are payable to Flying
Scot Fleet 158. Give your check to Fleet Treasurer, Tommy Weaver, or
mail to him at:
161 Caedmon's Creek
Irmo, SC 29063
2. Pursuant to Tommy's message earlier this week, we need a fleet consensus
on whether to compete in the Sept 22, 23 Outback Regatta or plan our
own type of event for that weekend.
3. Several fleet members are planning to campaign three Fleet 158 boats
in this year's FS Midwinter regatta to be held during the 4th week of
March in St. Petersburg, Fl. There are plans to conduct a "Top
Gun School" during the regatta plus additional onshore activities.
It promises to be an exciting event.
Although each team is going to try to be as competitive as possible,
we are essentially viewing this as a training or developmental exercise
for all participating fleet members. Although nominal skippers will
probably absorb the cost of registration, we plan to "go Dutch",
sharing the cost of renting one or more condos and meals. The event
will be great preparation for the 2008 racing season and LMSC participants
will be afforded every opportunity to share tactics and skills throughout
the event. We may even trade skipper/crew positions, although class
rules may pose some difficulty there. Currently, skippers of husband/wife
teams have agreed that wives should go for the shopping and socialization
experience while the "guys" form teams for the regatta. So
far, we have three teams very pleased with the plan.
If you are interested in joining your fleet members in this year's Midwinter
event, contact Allan, Tommy, or me to discuss your plans or discuss
it in the August 4 meeting. I believe we will have a really good time,
wives included. And who knows? We may find ourselves near the front
of the fleet in some of those races!
