1.
Rules
The series will be governed by the rules as defined in the current Racing
Rules of Sailing 2005-2008.
2. Entries
Entry is open to all LMSC members and all sailboats types. Members may
invite guest competitors to participate in the series to a maximum of
four (4) event dates. Guest competitors invited to participate by more
than one LMSC member may accept all invitations provided the four (4)
event date maximum is not exceeded.
Non-member
competitors are not eligible to receive the Rodesiler or other season
awards associated with the series competition. Guest competitors may
be elegible to receive any recognition or awards that may result from
a single day's competition.
3. Notices to Competitors
Notices to Competitors will be posted on the official notice board located
on the patio under the LMSC Clubhouse.
4. Signals Made Ashore
Signals made ashore will be announced from the patio under the clubhouse.
Postponement or abandomnent will be signaled by a horn and the postponement
or abandonment flag flying from the docked committee boat.
5. Schedule
Races will be normally held on scheduled Saturdays. Following the first
scheduled race of the day, any additional races will start ASAP after
the first race ends. More than two races are possible. We intend to
do three races per day minimum, if at all possible.
6. Class Flag
The class flag will be the number one (1) pennant.
7. Racing Area
The racing area will be the large body of water to the east of LMSC
(it is approximately 1/2 hour sailing time to the course area). Wind
conditions may require the use of other areas at the Race Committee's
discretion.
8. Courses and Marks
The courses will be:
(#1) Start-Windward-Finish
(#2) Start-Windward-Leeward-Windward-Finish
(#3) Start-Windward-Leeward-Finish
(#4) Start-Windward-Leeward-Windward-Leeward-Finish
Course #1 & #2 use the starting line Orange Tetrahedron as the leeward
mark. (See course illustrations.)
The course number will be displayed in the rack above the cabin top
of the Committee boat. If the smaller committee boat is used, the course
number will be displayed by the PRO. The windward and leeward marks
will be orange tetrahedrons. Marks will be rounded to port.
9. Starting and Finishing
a.) The starting line will be between an orange flag
on the race Committee boat and an orange flag on the staff of a small
float ("man overboard" style). Courses #1 & #2 will use
an orange tetrahedron for start and finish lines.
b.)
The finishing line will be between an orange flag on the Race Committee
boat and an orange flag on small "man overboard" type float
or an orange tetrahedron or may be between a support boat and a mark
of the course. (See course
illustrations.)
c.)
The starting sequence outlined in rule 26 will be used. The warning
signal will be 5 minutes before the starting signal.
d.)
The race committee may shorten the course as deemed necessary. When
a race committee support boat displays the "S" flag at the
windward or leeward mark, the finish will be from that mark directly
to the regular finish line and not a mark of the course. This changes
RRS Rule 32.2.
10. Time Limit
The time limit for each race will be 90 minutes for the first boat to
finish. The last boat must finish 30 minutes or less after the first
boat to finish. Target "first boat" finish time is 30 minutes.
11. Protests
Protest must be filed with the PRO within 30 minutes of the Committee
Boat docking.
12. Scoring
a.) Scoring will be done using the Portsmouth rating
charts from US Sailing. The low point system will be used.
b.)
Any competitor awarded DNX (Did not compete, did not finish, disqualified,
etc.) for a race will be awarded one more point than the number of boats
entered in the series.
c.)
To determine accumulative season scores in the 2008 Rodesiler Series,
individual fleet standings will be scored based on 60% of the total
Rodesiler races held in 2008. Competitors sailing more than 60% of season
races may throw out their worst scores in excess of 60 %. Competitors
sailing less than 60% of season races will be scored on actual events
sailed plus any DNX events until the 60% minimum for scoring is reached.
d.)
Competitors serving on Race Committee will be awarded a score of zero
(0) for the first race served. Subsequent races served will be scored
based on the competitor's season average to date, excluding any "throw
out" races.
Addenda:
A-1) To qualify for the 2008 Rodesiler
Award and for entry into the 2008 Commodore's Cup Regatta,
competitors must serve at least once during the 2008 season as a member
of a race committee. Serving in any capacity, (PRO, mark boat,
timer, scorer, flags, etc.) meets this service requirement.
A-2)
To qualify for the 2008 Rodesiler Award competitors must sail
in at least 60% of Rodesiler Series races held during the 2008
season.
A-3)
2008 Rodesiler Series competitors who participate in
at least 60% of Rodesiler Series races held during the 2008
season will be given preference for entering the 2008 Commodore's
Cup regatta, our annual club championship series. Up to
12 entrants, based on fleet standing after competing in 60% of races,
then in order of overall fleet standings, will be invited
to compete for the Commodore's Cup.
Entrants
not participating in the 2008 Rodesiler series may be accepted for the
Commodore's Cup regatta if less than 12 eligible competitors
register for the event.
