Who We Are
A community of Sailors
Home Page

Lake Murray Sailing Club was founded in the winter of 1969 by a group sailing out of a commercial marina on Lake Murray.

The club’s property was purchased in 1971.  The first clubhouse was completed in 1974. In 1988, the original clubhouse was replaced with a modern facility designed to maintain the rural character of the grounds.

The club has two deep water launch ramps, 40 slips, and parking areas for more than 100 boats. The grounds include a large, grassy lakefront for picnicking and swimming.  The clubhouse is available to members for large functions and business meetings.

More than 100 families hold membership in the club.  Our members include day sailors, casual cruisers, club racers, and hard-core regatta junkies.

Among the members are a past president of the national Thistle Class Association, the vice-president of the national Thistle Class Association, a vice commodore of the national San Juan 21 Class Association, a director of the national Santana 20 Class Association, and two past commodores of the South Atlantic Yacht Racing Association.

The club promotes sailing through an active racing schedule, and camps for men, women, teens, and kids. The club also sponsors a community-wide Learn-to-Sail program for novices just entering sailing and a Youth Sailing Program.

At least four club-wide social events are held each year, in addition to the weekend events that draw families to the club.  The club currently hosts annual invitational regattas for the Thistle and Flying Scot one design classes.   We actively support nationally recognized sailing events by hosting regattas such as The San Juan 21 North American Championship, the Flying Scot Master's National Championship, and the Mallory Cup Quarter Finals.
